SAYLSA lobbied for the restoration of rail/ferry connections for morning and lunchtime ferry
sailings at Stranraer to be re-instated with the May timetable change but without success. The fact is we are excluded
from the formal consultation process. So much for democracy. The fact that no attempt has been made by First ScotRail
or Stena to provide a co-ordinated timetable says a lot that critics quite rightly upheld about public transport. Simply
there is no joined up thinking, and this is a classic example of it.
SAYLSA are also actively lobbying for improved
rail services to encourage greater use of the railway by non-ferry passengers, something which again, could be brought about
by improved timetabling and better connections.
The current price differential for passengers travelling the relatively
short distance from Stranraer, which falls outwith the subsidised SPT area, and Barrhill, which falls within it, does
nothing to encourage Stranraer residents to use the railway instread of the car when travelling to Ayr and beyond.
